When I tell people what I do for a living inevitably they want to know the name of my blog, or my personal chef business to which I happily reply, “Mamma Rocks the Kitchen” or “Mamma Rocks” with a little wink and a smile. After a brief pause and a somewhat confused look on their face I am always confronted with the same question in rebuttal, “How did you come up with that name?”
Truth be told I didn’t!
My 6 year old daughter (at the time – she is turning 8 now) did.
You see I have always loved to cook for my family… and they are my biggest fans, taste testers and flat out tell-it-like-it-is critics (whether they like or don’t like what I made they tell me the truth – no matter how happy or sad it makes me 🙂 ).
You see, about 2 years ago now, when I decided to open up my own personal chef and catering business I needed a name. It was a week before New Years during the kids Christmas break and my husband and I were standing in the kitchen throwing out all kinds of name ideas and running them by our 2 daughters who were intently watching TV in the living room to see what they thought (like I said they are my biggest critics). EVERYTHING he and I came up with was bad in their minds… too weird, not catchy enough, too silly, you name it they were all terrible.
Coming up with a good name was just baffling us!
I would say something like, “I want to show people how important mom’s are in family’s lives” or “I want to show people the recipes my mom and my grandmother made.”
And my husband would say something like, “But we need to make sure that it is modern, that our recipes have a new twist” or “We should give people your meatball recipe because it rocks” (my husband is a guitar playing music geek so something that rocks is good).
Then out of no where my youngest peels here eye’s away from the TV, peeks her head over the couch and says, “Why don’t you call your business Mamma Rocks?’
We all looked at each other dumb founded.
From the mouths of children…
And that is how we (my daughter) came up with the name Mamma Rocks.
